Experimental Studies.on Liver Function and Its Histopathology in Cases of Eck¢¥s Operation and Intrahepatic Arterial Implantation

Abstract
In attempting to improve the impairment of liver function associated in Eck¢¥s operation, 17 dogs. were experimentally studied using portacaval end-to-side anastomosis and [or associated with intrahepatic arterial implantation in which influence of each operation on, liver function was investigated as well as histopathology of the liver.
In the functional tests of the liver both one and two months after operation, consistently increased impairment of the liver function was noticed in the group of Eck¢¥s operation, but in the group of Eck¢¥s operation followed by intrahepatic arterial implantation the degree of reduction of liver function was rather slight than the former group, and had a tendency to improve following three months
after the surgery.
Histopathologically the liver showed similar results. But in the group of Eck¢¥s operation followed by intrahepatic arterial implantation, the specimen of liver tissue obtained three months after the surgery was seemed to be rather bad than that of two month¢¥s specimen.
